CNC Programmer
Analyzes drawings to create CNC programming instructions and set up procedures required to produce machined parts utilizing various machine functions.

Essential Job Functions
Reviews drawings/blueprints and performs calculations used to create programmed machining instructions

Utilizes CAD software to prepare geometric layouts, reference points and cutting path directions

Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures to outline the sequence of operations and selects tooling required to perform a job

Calculates time required to manufacture a component

Evaluates written programs for efficiency, errors, needed improvements

Checks/verifies completed programs by running simulations or tests before placing into production

Monitors all programs to ensure they follow blueprint instructions and safely complete the task

Modifies existing programs for changes and/or increased efficiency

Train machinists and assist with set ups, supervises and monitors the production cycle

Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations

Documents actions by completing production and quality logs

Maintains up to date job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be capable of writing CNC programs quickly and effectively

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

Must be able to utilize mathematics, logic, and reasoning to solve problems

Must be mechanically inclined, detail oriented, and capable of performing with little or no supervision

Must be a team player capable of working with a diverse group of people

Education/Experience
Associates Degree or equivalent in CNC programming, computer-related or mechanical related field from a two year or technical school and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience

1-2 years of previous CNC programming experience in a machine shop
